The Loire valley stretches nearly 500 kilometres through West and Central France and includes well known French cities like Anjou and Tours. Because of the wide variation in soils and climates the Loire produces some very good examples of many different varietals.
Most famous amoungst the Loire wines are Sauvignon Blanc, in fact Sauvignon Blanc originated from the central Loire. The Loire produces vibrant minerally examples of Sauvignon and you will likely find these called Sancerre, Pouilly-Fume. Other varietals that show unique expression from the Loire are Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir, Malbec and Gamay.
